An innovator, mentor, and master preacher, Bishop Michael Eugene Hill, Sr.is committed to excellence in ministry. Bishop Hill is a native of Detroit, Michigan. He majored in accounting at the Detroit College of Business and Highland Park Junior College. He later completed his education at Saints Junior College in Lexington, Mississippi. Born to Bishop Robert Hill and Mother Cozette Hill, ,his parents provided him with strong roots in the Church that laid the foundation for his future success in ministry. As a Son of the Church, his background prepared him for leadership.
In 1986, Bishop Hill succeeded his father, becoming the senior pastor of the Kingdom International Church of God in Christ (formerly known as Hill Memorial COGIC). As pastor, he introduced to the Church modern ministry tools intended to foster an inclusive and diverse congregation.
Bishop Hill serves COGIC on both the jurisdictional and international levels with distinction. In November 2011, Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr. appointed him as Jurisdictional Prelate of the Great Lakes First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Michigan. Prior to his elevation as prelate, he served the Jurisdiction in crucial roles, such as Administrative Assistant to the Late Bishop Clifford C. Dunlap, Finance Committee Chairman, and Superintendent of the Deliverance District. He also served as Special Assistant to the Late First Assistant Presiding Bishop C.L. Anderson, Jr.
Internationally, Bishop Hill serves as the Director of the Preachers Kid (PK) Connection, an initiative directly targeting the children of COGIC Pastors, Elders, and Ministers. He also served as President of the International Youth Department from 2004 – 2008. He serves the local community as well. He is the Chaplin for the Wayne County Sheriffs Office.
In 2021, the General Assembly elected Bishop Hill to the General Board in its first virtual election. Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard appointed him as the Assistant Secretary for the Board as well.
He is a devoted family man. Bishop Hill has been the loving husband of First Lady Pearl Hill for 44 years. This loving union produced two beautiful children NaKisha Sims (Thibiti) and Elder Michael E. Hill, Jr. (Katrina) ; six wonderful grandchildren: Dwight III, Micah, Christian, Kyla, Keliah and Michael E. Hill, III. They have one a great-grandson, Duke.
Notably, Bishop Hill is a talented musician who is gifted in both singing and organ playing. He is a profound gospel preacher, too. He is nationally known for such thought-provoking sermons, like Dont Lose Your Bark and Trying to Catch Me Riding Dirty.
